Thought for Sunday Homily

We may ask what is special in this gospel ? Unless we see this event with the eyes of faith we may not find anything special in it. And the speciality is, the moment in which Peter and other apostles recognise in Jesus the Messiah, there begins the kingdom of God. This small group is the mustard seed which will give origin to the gigantic tree. This fact changes the whole content of the preaching of Jesus. No more this group longs for the food that perishes but from now on they long for the food that lasts for eternal life. And from this moment Jesus occupies himself in the formation of this particular group which will be head of his church. It means the Christian life begins with faith and recognising in Jesus the promised Messiah. Church cannot be church as long as it is worried about the food that perishes. Unfortunately the same thoughts which the crowd entertained about Jesus exists until today in the hearts of vast majority of Christians.

Once you recognise who is Jesus for you – begins your journey of faith. And once Jesus recognises in you the required faith He begins reforming your life as he began reforming the life of apostles. But what is the first step of this formation ? "And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and by the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed…". The first step is "the Cross". He makes them to understand that the life which they embraced is not a way to success or to power, but an existence which will be full of fatigue, suffering and obscurity. A path which is full of thorns and thistles.

Jesus Heals the Deaf and Blind (Mark 7:31-37)

AM I DEAF?
In today’s Gospel reading we enter into a central part of Mark’s Gospel. The section begins with the healing of a deaf man and ends with the healing of a blind man. These are not just miracle stories about Jesus’ power but have a teaching purpose. Jesus has just been in the Gentile area of Tyre and Sidon (on the Mediterranean coast in modern Lebanon) and has moved on to the area of the Decapolis (Ten Towns), on the east bank of the Jordan River. It was basically a Gentile, a non-Jewish area.
There a man is brought for Jesus to heal. He was deaf, that is, he could not hear and he had an impediment in his speech, that is, he could not speak properly.
Today we are consoled by human and technological advancements can address impairments of hearing.
But the big impairment we experience in our life today is the spiritual impairment.
Spiritual deafness shutting our ears to God who speaks to us. Sometimes we go on with our sinful ways of life as if we didn’t hear anything from God. He wants to heal our spiritual deafness. Am I ready? Am I deaf?
What can I do?
We have to seek out Jesus, go off with Him, away from the crowd, and spend time in His healing presence. So, let us pray today for the gift of hearing, to hear the voice of God calling to us in everything that will happen this day. Let us pray for the gift of speech, that is, to be so filled with the liberating experience of knowing Jesus that we simply cannot refrain from sharing that experience with all those around us.

Jesus Wants Hearts, not Hypocrites

God cares more about what happens on the inside of our lives than what happens on the outside: he wants our hearts.
That's what he's trying to explain to the Pharisees, and to all his disciples, and to us.
It is quite possible to appear perfectly Christian on the outside while being perfectly selfish on the inside.
We can go to Mass regularly, avoid obviously lewd or sinful behavior in public, say prayers so that others will notice - we can do all those things exteriorly while constantly entertaining evil thoughts and self-centered desires in our hearts.
That kind of divided life, which is called hypocrisy, can't last.
As the old saying goes, unless we live according to what we believe, we will soon start believing in accordance with what we live.
Or, as Jesus puts it elsewhere in the Gospels (cf. Matthew 6:21): where our hearts are, there our treasure is.
True followers of Jesus Christ can never be satisfied with merely exterior piety; we can never consider ourselves superior to others just because our sins are less visible.
That's what the Pharisees did, and it blinded them to God's love; in fact, it tragically turned them into enemies of God.
True religion has exterior manifestations, certainly, but they are meant to flow from and give expression to the experience of the heart.
The heart is the place where we decide for or against our conscience, for or against God's will.
Our friendship with Christ, and the purpose, strength, and vigor that flows out of that friendship, depend on our inner allegiance to him; looking like goody-two-shoes on the outside can never substitute for that.
Jesus doesn't care what we look like to others; he cares about who we really are.
And so, that's what we should care about too.

IF LOVE HURTS, then LOVE MORE.
IF LOVE STILL HURTS, then LOVE EVEN MORE.
IF LOVE EVEN HURTS MORE, then LOVE
‘TILL IT HURTS NO MORE.

Remember that your presence
is a present to the world.

Remember that you are a unique
and unrepeatable creation.

Remember to take the days just one at a time.

Remember to count your blessings,
not your troubles.

Remember that you will make it through
whatever comes along.

Remember that most the answer you need
are within you.

Remember that those dreams are waiting
to be realized.

Remember that decisions are too important
to leave to chance.

Remember to always reach for the best
that is within you.

Remember that nothing wastes more energy
than worry.

Remember that not getting what you want
is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.

Remember that the longer you carry a grudge,
the heavier it gets.

Remember not to take things too seriously.

Remember to laugh.

Remember that a little love
goes a long way.

Remember that a lot goes forever.

Remember that happiness is more often found
in giving than getting.

Remember that life’s treasures are people,
not things.

Remember that miracles can still happen.

LET US KILL CANCER

Dr.T.K.RAMAN

Excellent article on cancer. Pass it on.AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THEREIS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY.

Cancer Update from Johns Hopkins: 1.
Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.
2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person's lifetime.
3. When the person's immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumours.
4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.
5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

An fective way to battle cancer is to starve the cancer cells by not feeding it with the foods it needs to multiply. WHAT CANCER CELLS FEED ON:
a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Sugar substitutes likeNutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg's aminos or sea salt.
b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells are being starved.
c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather thanbeef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.
d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkalineenvironment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes to nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells. To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).
e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water-best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic; avoid it.
f. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines become putrefied and leads to more toxic buildup.
g. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body's killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.
1h. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Florescence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body's own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body's normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.
i. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor. Anger, unforgiveness and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life. j. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

A holy man was having a conversation with the Lord one day and said. 'Lord, I would like to know what Heaven and Hell are like.
The Lord led the holy man to two doors.
He opened one of the doors and the holy man looked in. In the middle of the room was a large round table. In the middle of the table was a large pot of stew, which smelled delicious and made the holy man's mouth water.
The people sitting around the table were thin and sickly. They appeared to be famished. They were holding spoons with very long handles that were strapped to their arms and each found it possible to reach into the pot of stew and take a spoonful.
But because the handle was longer than their arms, they could not get the spoons back into their mouths.
The holy man shuddered at the sight of their misery and suffering.
The Lord said, 'You have seen HelThey went to the next room and opened the door. It was exactly the same as the first one. There was the large round table with the large pot of stew which made the holy man's mouth water. The people were equipped with the same long-handled spoons, but here the people were well nourished and plump, laughing and talking. The holy man said, 'I don't understand. It is simple,' said the Lord.
'It requires but one skill. You see they have learned to feed each other, while the greedy think only of themselves.'
When Jesus died on the cross, he was thinking of you. Its estimated 93% won't forward this. If you are one of the 7% who will, forward this with the title '7%'.
I'm in the 7% Remember that I will always share my spoon with you. .

Be Thankful..

A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: ' I am blind, please help .' There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, 'Were you the one who changed my sign this morning? What did you write?'
The man said, 'I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way.'
What he had written was: ' Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it. '
Do you think the first sign and the second sign were saying the same thing?
Of course both signs told people the boy was blind. But the first sign simply said the boy was blind. The second sign told people they were so lucky that they were not blind. Should we be surprised that the second sign was more effective?
Moral of the Story: Be thankful for what you have. Be creative. Be innovative. Think differently and positively.
Invite others towards good with wisdom. Live life with no excuse and love with no regrets. When life gives you a 100 reasons to cry, show life that you have 1000 reasons to smile. Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear. Keep the faith and drop the fear.
Great men say, 'Life has to be an incessant process of repair and reconstruction, of discarding evil and developing goodness…. In the journey of life, if you want to travel without fear, you must have the ticket of a good conscience.'
The most beautiful thing is to see a person smiling…
And even more beautiful, knows that you are the reason behind it!!!

Having Lunch with God!

HAVING LUNCH WITH GOD

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with a bag of potato chips and a six-pack of root beer and started his journey.
When he had gone about three blocks, he met an old woman. She was sitting in the park, just staring at some pigeons. The boy sat down next to her and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the old lady looked hungry, so he offered her some chips. She gratefully accepted it and smiled at him.
Her smile was so pretty that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered her a root beer. Again, she smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.
As twilight approached, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave; but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the old woman, and gave her a hug. She gave him her biggest smile ever. When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy?" He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? She's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"
Meanwhile, the old woman, also radiant with joy, returned to her home. Her son was stunned by the look of peace on her face and he asked, "Mother, what did you do today that made you so happy?" She replied! "I ate potato chips in the park with God." However, before her son responded, she added, "You know, he's much younger than I expected."
Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime! Embrace all equally!
Have lunch with God ...... bring chips.
Send this to people who have touched your life in a special way. Let them know how important they are.
I did!!!!
God still sits on the throne the devil is a liar. You may be going through a tough time right now but God is getting ready to bless you in a way that only He can. Keep the faith.

Faith Like a Grain of Mustard Seed
The mustard seed is as sturdy as a weed.
It can take hold anywhere -- among rocks,
along putrid ditches, in country gardens,
along paths that lead deep into the woods.
No matter where it takes root, it takes over.
My faith has been more like a mysterious fish.
It can remain so still it fades into the beige
background or moves so quickly through rough
water, it appears to be no more than a ripple
of a wave. It will nibble at almost anything
it thinks can sustain it. Worse, it can be caught
by simply rubbing its belly -- and Lord knows
the world is still filled with people who hold
the secret of tickling fish. Sometimes my faith
is like a straw fence put up to hold back a raging
fire. It can be consumed with such furor, not
even ashes remain one minute, and burst into a
celestial umbrella that sheds the rains of doubt like
water off a duck's back. I wonder if it has a sense
of humor or what waits in the white rage of its laughter?
--Fredrick Zydek Omaha, Neb.

THOUGHTS TO KEEP

Forgiveness
Jesus said to turn the other cheek He also said to forgive 7 times 70 Easy for Him to say He was God Or at least the son of God How do I get to the place Where I forgive those Who disrespect me and malign me Those who could care less about my feelings Yet I still care about theirs Why is forgiveness so hard Why does it take so much out of you Why is it easier to hold on to a grudge Rather than to let it go Am I doing something wrong If it is true that we are to love others As we love ourselves And we stay mad at ourselves For our misdeeds and misdoing Is it realistic to easily forgive someone If you extend the olive branch Of friendship and kindness and forgiveness And it is not returned Should you really keep trying Even if you feel it is a lost cause Or will persistence win the day With the honesty and sincerity of words Be recognized and acknowledged Followed by a reasonable attempt To let bygones be bygones Is this one of the famous battles Between head and heart With both having opposing views But the same hold on your psyche Neither winning, neither losing Sometimes I wonder If our lack of ability to forgive Is truly more rooted in our Bruised ego and hurt feelings Perhaps the pain we feel is comforting If I were to release my anger and my pain Only to be knocked again Who becomes the bigger fool Me for trying Or them for doing I wish that such matters were as easy As a game of tic-tac-toe Or perhaps it is Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose Neither happens if you don't take a chance So I resolve to forgive To be the bigger and better person Give of myself as I would want others To give to me And perhaps this time everyone will win.

Thought for the Day

Thoughts for the Day

EVERY DAY BRINGS NEWS CHANCES to GROW,
NEW BEAUTY TO SEE,
NEW PLANS TO DO and
GOALS TO PURSUE…
EVERY NEW DAY LIKE TODAY
is GOD’S MIRACLE of LIFE.

No one is rich enough to buy back the past
and if you have the courage to do
what is right today,
you can be the richest one tomorrow.

The GREATEST PATH TOWARDS FULFILLMENT
is NOT IN KNOWING WHAT WE WANT
and HOW TO GET IT,
BUT in KNOWING WHAT WE HAVE
and HOW TO SHARE IT.

Count not the leaves that had fallen

but rather count, behold and
be happy about the flowers
that blossom in it.

7 HABITS for HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE and FAMILIES
By Covey 1. Be proactive –Highly effective families act based on principles and values. Ineffective families react based on emotion or circumstance. Effective families accept personal responsibility for their own actions and resulting consequences. Ineffective families blame and accuse other family members, other people or circumstances for their problems.
2. Begin with the end in mind – Effective families have a clear, agreed-upon sense of shared vision and purpose. They work together to accomplish their shared vision. They are contribution focused. Ineffective families proceed with little or nothing in mind.
3. Put first things first – Effective families invest quality time in the family – even amid all the other pressing demands of life. Ineffective family members are those who are often rushed and hurried, working long hours and feeling guilty about not having more family times.
4. Think win-win – Effective families genuinely seek mutual benefit in all family interactions and find joy in the success of other family members (walang inggitan). Ineffective families secretly resent the success of other family members. They would rather be "right" than "happy."
5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood – Effective families try to seek first to understand the other family member's point of view instead of focusing on making their point and convincing others to agree.
6. Synergize – Effective families celebrate difference and believe that "our way" is better than "your way" or "my way." Ineffective families think, "we both give up something so that we can agree."
7. Sharpen the saw – As an individual and as a family, effective people do things together – exercise, take vacations, worship. As marriage partners, they regularly do things to keep the flame alive. Ineffective families, on the other hand, "rarely take time for reward." They often watch endless hours of mindless TV!
* * *

Covey shared these "bonding" tips to keep your family strong:
1. Have weekly dates with your partner.
2. Have "dates" with each of your children, wherein they decide what to do.
3. Make special phone calls regularly to children who live away from home.
4. Even take a child with you on a business trip if appropriate! Covey said that at one's deathbed, one never wishes one spent more time at the office; it's always, "I should have spent more time with my family." He also said the most important sentences in the world are short.
These are: Please. Thank you. I love you. How may I help you? I'd love to serve.
* * *
A Mormon, his dream is that through his talks, he will be able to empower people and strengthen values so that in the end, the world will have a bigger middle class – instead of having more poor people in our midst. Covey, a father of nine and a grandfather of 42 (one more is due on Christmas Day), said people and organizations have four basic needs; To live, to love, to learn and to leave a legacy. Parents should always "keep affirming their children" and tell them always, "I love you, I believe in you." If you are disappointed that your child is not fulfilling his potential, stop! "Believe in your child, not in his potential," advises Covey, "Do not falter in your belief in him." He advised everyone to keep in mind that, "Life is short." And while blessed with the gift of life, always remember that, "Family is what life is about."

Advent Thought

TREASURE WHAT YOU HAVE…

Pretty true in the phrase at the end.

Sometimes we spend time on who is responsible or who to blame, whether in a relationship, in a job or with the people you know. We miss out some warmth in human relationship to gie each other support. Treasure what you have.

A boy was born to a couple after eleven years of marriage. They were a loving couple and the boy was the apple of their eyes.

When the boy was around two years old, one morning the husband saw a medicine bottle open. He was late for the office so he asked the wife to cap the bottle and keep it in the cupboard. The mother, preoccupied in the kitchen totally forgot the matter.

The boy playfully went to the medicine bottle and, fascinated with its color, drank it all. It happened to be a poisonous medicine meant for adults in small dosages. When the child showed signs of poisoning the mother took him to the hospital, where he died.

The mother was stunned. She was terrified how to face her husband…
When the distraught father came to the hospital and saw the dead child, he looked at his wife and uttered just four words.

QUESTIONS:

1. What were the four words?
2. What is the implication of this story?

Check with the answers only after you have tried to come up with your own.

Please scroll down.

ANSWER:

The husband just said “I LOVE YOU DARLING.”

The husband’s totally unexpected reaction is proactive behavior. He is indeed a genius in human relationships.

The child is dead. He can never come back to life. There is no point in finding fault with the mother. She had also lost her only child. What she needed at that moment was consolation and sympathy from the husband. That is what he gave her.

If everyone can look at life with this kind of perspective, there would be much fewer problems in the world.

To be happy with a man you must understand him a lot and love him a little.

To be happy with a woman you must understand her a lot and love her with all your heart.
“A journey of a thousand miles, begins with but with a single step. Take off all your envies, jealousies, unforgiveness, selfishness, and fears AND you will find THINGS ARE ACTUALLY NOT SO DIFFICULT AS YOU THINK.”

THE BRICK
A young and successful executive was traveling down a neighborhood street, going a bit too fast in his new Jaguar. He was watching for kids darting out from between parked cars and slowed down when he thought he saw something.

As his car passed, no children appeared. Instead, a brick smashed into the Jag's side door! He slammed on the brakes and backed the Jag back to the spot where the brick had been thrown.

The angry driver then jumped out of the car, grabbed the nearest kid and pushed him up against a parked car shouting, "What was that all about and who are you? Just what the heck are you doing? That's a new car and that brick you threw is going to cost a lot of money. Why did you do it?"

The young boy was apologetic. "Please, mister...please, I'm sorry but I didn't know what else to do," He pleaded. "I threw the brick because no one else would stop..."

With tears dripping down his face and off his chin, the youth pointed to a spot just around a parked car. "It's my brother, "he said. "He rolled off the curb and fell out of his wheelchair and I can't lift him up."
Now sobbing, the boy asked the stunned executive, "Would you please help me get him back into his wheelchair? He's hurt and he's too heavy for me." Moved beyond words, the driver tried to swallow the rapidly swelling lump in his throat. He hurriedly lifted the handicapped boy back into the wheelchair, then took out a linen handkerchief and dabbed at the fresh scrapes and cuts. A quick look told him everything was going to be okay. Thank you and may God bless you," the grateful child told\n the stranger.

Too shook up for words, the man simply watched the boy push his wheelchair-bound brother down the sidewalk toward their home. It was a long, slow walk back to the Jaguar. The damage was very noticeable, but the driver never bothered to repair the dented side door. He kept the dent there to remind him of this message: "Don't go through life so fast\n that someone has to throw a brick at you to get your attention!" Thought for the Day:
If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.
If He had a wallet, your photo would be in it.

He sends you flowers every spring.
He sends you a sunrise every morning Face it, friend - He is crazy about you! \>God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way. ",1]
He sends you a sunrise every morning Face it, friend - He is crazy about you!

Send this to every "beautiful person" you wish to bless.

God didn't promise days without pain, laughter without sorrow, sun without rain, but He did promise strength for the day, comfort for the tears, and light for the way.
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Read this line very slowly and let it sink in...

If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.

Birthday of our Mother

HAPPY FEAST TO ALL
Dear friends, the longed for feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary is at hand; so let us be glad with the greatest rejoicing as such a feast dawns for us. She is the flower of the field from whom bloomed the precious Lily of the valley, through whose birth the nature inherited from our first parents is transformed and our guilt is blotted out. Eve mourned, Mary rejoiced. Eve carried tears in her heart; Mary, joy. Eve gave birth to sinners, Mary to the Innocent One. The mother of our race brought forth punishment upon the world, the Mother of our Lord brought salvation into the world. Eve was the author of sin, Mary the author of merit. Eve by killing was a hindrance to the human race, Mary by giving life was a help to all; Eve struck, Mary healed. Disobedience is displaced by obedience, and fidelity atones for infidelity..This miraculous new birth has utterly vanquished the aimless wanderings of humankind; Mary's canticle has put an end to the lamentations of Eve.PrayerGreat Mother of God, your childbearing of the Word of God was the beginning of our salvation.May your grace-filled birthday that delights the heart of the redeemed bring us also an increase of peace. Blest be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother! Amen.
